Mission

The Music Ministries of St. Peter's are comprised of many musicians who lovingly give of their talent and time to serve God. Music is integral to our worship, formation, and spiritual growth at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Rooted in the richness of the Anglican choral tradition, this ministry seeks to encourage the participation and involvement of all parishioners in a way that is Christ-centered and deepens our faith.

Adult Choir

The St. Peter’s Choir is a group of adult singers of all ages committed to enriching our worship with excellent musical offerings. They provide leadership for the weekly 11 a.m. liturgy as well as Choral Evensong, Christmas Lessons & Carols, and other special services and concerts throughout the year. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:15 to 9:00 p.m. and are preceded by an optional choral skill building session from 7:00 to 7:15 for those who wish to improve their vocal and music reading abilities. Previous choral experience and the ability to read music is desirable, but not required. Contact Lauren Stroh to set up an informal audition to join this choir.

Youth Choir

Grades 6-12

The Youth Choir is a dynamic group of high school and middle school students who are committed to growing in their knowledge and love of God through song. This choir rehearses 10:10-10:50 a.m. each Sunday during the choral season (Labor Day to Trinity Sunday) and regularly participates in the worship life of St. Peter’s.

St. Peter’s Choristers

Grades 3-5

The St. Peter’s Choristers rehearse Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:00 p.m. in Classroom 3 of the Parish Hall. They sing regularly throughout the choral season, both on their own and together with the Youth and Adult Choirs. These children learn about the Episcopal liturgy, seasons of the church year, reading music, and singing with a healthy technique.

Cherub Choir

Pre-K thru 2nd Grade

The Cherub Choir provides an opportunity for our youngest brothers and sisters to make a joyful noise in praise of God. Through fun and action-packed rehearsals, children find their voice and learn to play bells and other instruments. The Cherub Choir rehearses each Wednesday from 6:15-6:45 p.m. in Classroom 5 of the Parish Hall.

Royal School of Church Music

St. Peter’s is an affiliate member of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) and children and youth choirs benefit from the RSCM’s Voice for Life curriculum. The motto of the RSCM, “I will sing with the spirit and with the understanding also” (1 Corinthians 14:15), is shared by a worldwide network of over 8,000 churches, schools and individuals. Through this system, choristers may earn special recognition for their achievements in choir, being awarded different levels of ribbons and medals, which they wear proudly along with their vestments for sung liturgies.

Choral Scholars Program

Each year, St. Peter’s offers choral scholarships to several area college students to contribute their gifts to the adult choir and help others in this ministry grow musically and spiritually. Those interested in consideration should submit a resume and recordings to Lauren Stroh.

Instrumentalists

St. Peter’s Church is blessed with talented instrumental players who regularly contribute their talents to worship and concerts. Woodwinds, brass, and strings players participate in the music program throughout the year.

Music Volunteers

The music ministry would not be possible without the support of countless volunteers who manage the library, help set up for rehearsals and performances, and ensure that liturgies and concerts continue smoothly.
