I see hunger in various forms – hunger for knowledge, hunger for attention, hunger for love, hunger for compassion, hunger for God. Unfortunately hunger is all around us, but the hunger for food continues to grow in McKinney. By supporting the Empty Bowls event we demonstrate the desire to nourish and strengthen our city.
— Christine Hockin-Boyd, Community Lifeline Center Executive Director

In conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of McKinney and Community Lifeline Center, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosted their first Empty Bowls fundraising dinner on Thursday, Feb. 9. Parishioners and members of the community gathered to share a meal and help bring awareness to hunger in its many forms. Expected to raise nearly $3,000, the funds will be used to expand and enhance St. Peter’s Easter Basket Ministry. Combined with resources from the church, the goal is to feed 150 families an Easter Meal. Learn more about how you can support this effort.

“At St. Peter’s, we feel our ministries are not just within the church or within the Diocese, but all around us, in McKinney, in Texas, in the world. This partnership with Community Lifeline allows us to serve in a way that is meaningful to both God and our neighbors,” said Reverend Michael Hoffman, Rector of St. Peter’s. The staff of Community Lifeline identifies the recipients and coordinates the delivery of the meals. Last year this effort served 87 families. Guests were served a simple meal of soup and bread, and were given a handcrafted bowl to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. Over 180 bowls were crafted and donated by local artists, high school art classes, St. Peter’s Youth and other groups.

Empty Bowls, McKinney, has been founded to provide a meal at Easter to the food insecure in McKinney & surrounding areas.
