Everyone is Welcome at the Table

Everyone is Welcome at the Table

A Canaanite woman, an outsider, comes to Jesus seeking healing for her daughter. At first Jesus tells her what many of the Jews in the audience would have believed, that because she was not a good Jew, she was an outsider. But I believe that Jesus was stating the false beliefs of some, so that he can turn it around on them. For when the Canaanite woman persists with humility, Jesus tells her that she has a 'great faith' and heals her daughter. I am sure this shocked those who heard his words.

Through this story (and many others in the Gospels), we encounter a truth about God's grace. Everyone is welcome at God's table. God's love and mercy are for anyone who turns to Him. Jesus had a special place in His heart for the broken, the outcasts, and the lowly. All are welcome at the table. You are welcome at the table. There is plenty of food for everyone.
