STEWARDSHIP

God has given us all we need for us to flourish as a church. At first glance, that’s not a great pitch for a stewardship drive. But something incredible happens in the church when we trust that God will provide: we stop holding so tightly to what we have been given and stretch our arms outward. We give instead of take. It’s then that we grow in faith, and in love and service. It’s then that we grow closer to God because that is exactly what God has done for us.

That doesn’t mean that we won’t get anxious sometimes, but the church’s role is to stand strong against the false scarcity of the world. Churches that give in to fear forget how blessed they are and begin to keep God’s blessings to themselves. They worry there won’t be enough and think too small. But God’s blessings are abundant, they aren’t meant to be contained, and the church is made to dream big.

God has not sustained our church for 147 years so that we can do small things. God has given us more than we could ever ask or imagine. God will give us enough this year—more than enough—to do incredible ministry together. I believe that, and I hope you do too.
