Each Lent, Episcopalians remove the word ‘Alleluia’ from our worship. At St. Peter’s, the kids even make an ‘Alleluia banner’ and bury it in the church yard to be dug up on Easter. Why is that word such a big deal? It means ‘praise the Lord,’ but it’s more than just a word. It’s an exclamation, a cry of joy that comes deep from within our souls. It’s our response to the resurrection of Jesus. This has been a hard year, but nothing can take Christ’s resurrection or our joy from our hearts. It’s time to dig up our Alleluia! Alleluia—Christ is risen!
